Main duties and responsibilities:
- To provide professional leadership, direction and management of the MFL curriculum in order to secure high quality teaching, the effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.
- To lead on the development of excellent teaching and learning of MFL across the whole school.
- To line-manage teaching and support staff within the MFL department, including involvement in the appraisal process and staff induction, when appropriate.
- To monitor teaching, learning and pupil progress within the MFL department in order to promote excellent outcomes for all pupils.
- To co-ordinate the MFL curriculum across the whole school in order to ensure continuity of learning and an appropriate level of challenge for all learners.
- To be responsible for the examination courses at Common Entrance.
- To co-ordinate the school’s MFL extension activities as well as MFL external outreach and challenge sessions for all pupils.
- To be an ambassador for the department and to actively raise the profile of Modern Foreign Languages within and outside the school.
- To manage the appropriate budget(s) within the MFL department.
- To reasonably and appropriately delegate the above tasks to the relevant staff.

Essential Person Specification:
- Qualified Teacher Status with a specialism in French
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Experience of delivering the Key Stage 2 and 3 curriculum
- Strong subject knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of the learning process
- Awareness of the responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children
- Able to lead, motivate and support staff effectively
- Personable and hold an ability to build a rapport with all members of the school community.
- The vision and capacity to drive the department to be at the forefront of the school’s success
- Excellent classroom practitioner with success in teaching MFL.
- Evidence of creative and imaginative approaches to teaching MFL
Desirable Person Specification:
- The ability to teach French and Spanish up to Common Entrance scholarship level
- Experience delivering EYFS and Key Stage 1 MFL curriculum.
- Experience of effectively leading and managing a department or team of staff
- Experience of curriculum design and development
- Understanding of various adaptive teaching methods to meet the needs of a range of student abilities.
