An outstanding Head of Art is required for September 2025. The School has a long-standing record of high academic achievement (95% of A-level entries gained A* to B grades in 2024). There is also much happening in terms of co-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to be fully involved in School life.
The post will involve teaching Art & Design to years 6 13. Experience in a position of responsibility to date in their present school is advantageous and this is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in Middle Leadership and, ultimately, beyond. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the Art Department, and taking responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of all pupils from Old Grammar (Y6) to Senior Sixth. The ideal candidate will have a clear vision for teaching and learning in Art and an ability to inspire others to fulfil their potential. They will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, able to lead by example. The department sits within the faculty of Innovative Design and Visual Arts which brings together Art, IT&C and Design Computing and Robotics (DCR).
We teach the Edexcel A Level and every year a number of pupils go on to high tariff universities to pursue a Foundation Year and other associated courses linked to Art & Design. At GCSE we offer the AQA Fine Art GCSE as well as 3D Art & Design. Lower School classes are small and we are able to ensure access to a wide range of media. There is a rich supra-curricular programme, which is overseen by the Head of Department, including competitions, life-drawing classes and trips.In recent years there have been trips to Venice and Yorkshire as well as an exciting range of day trips, utilising our fabulous location.

CLS Teaching Pay Scale £38,190 - £62,640 (plus two progressions points to £64,680 to £66,780 2024 - 2025). There is a HoD allocation and allowance.
